About Ākona
A practice forged from lived necessity.
The Name
Ākona
From the Māori root ako: to teach and to learn.
It reflects a simple principle: every interaction is reciprocal. Teaching and learning arise together, for everyone involved.
This is not the transfer of knowledge. It is refinement through interaction.
Awareness meets experience. Feedback organizes the system. The body becomes the reference point. Sensation becomes information.
Over time, learning is no longer something you think about. It becomes something you can access, apply, and trust.
The Story
I grew up in and out of hospitals because of scoliosis.
My spinal muscles would seize without warning, painfully cramping my back and neck into hyperextension for hours at a time. All I knew was disassociating levels of pain. There was no stability. No predictability. Only episodes I couldn't override.
By the time I was eighteen, I was done accepting that as my reality.
My doctor gave me two options: put a metal rod in my spine, accept permanent limitation, and go on disability. Or figure something else out.
I chose to figure something else out.
From that point forward, I left nothing unexplored. Courses, certifications, books, clinical research, mentorships. I pursued anything that could help me understand how the body actually works and how to restore it. Not in theory. In practice.
Over time, I began to piece things together. Patterns emerged. Systems started to make sense. Slowly, I rebuilt myself.
The Practice
Now, nearly fifteen years later.
As my capacity improved, people began to notice — not because I was marketing anything, but because of how I approached the process. Relentless. Precise. Fully engaged in understanding what was actually happening beneath the surface.
People started asking for help, and the work grew organically.
I have worked with individuals across the full spectrum of society. It does not matter if you are a Grammy Award-winning artist or someone simply trying to feel better. The same underlying reality applies to all of us: we all have a human body.
The principles that allowed me to rebuild myself apply to my family, your family, my clients, and anyone willing to understand and work with their body at that level of commitment to life itself.
Personally
My life is directly tied to this work. Without holistic health, I would not be here.
And as long as you are alive, change is possible. Improvement is possible. Life is a miracle and you are a breathing miracle. No one can take that away from you.
